Consulting a physician (if you are reducing or stopping alcohol or drug use, having medical support may be critical!)
Detox services (may be appropriated and useful)
Getting support of family and friends.
Utilizing self-help books
Employing professionals such as drug and alcohol counsellors and psychotherapists.
Going to a residential treatment centre
Living and participating in a Dry Community.
The steps above may be engaged one by one until you are satisfied with how your life is changing. For example, after the first 3 steps you might find you are happy with the changes you have made and not continue to the steps described after that.
