The Chopra Addiction and Wellness Center has developed interactive educational sessions that form part of the daily afternoon program. The aim of these sessions is not only to provide information and knowledge, but also to give residents the tools and techniques they can incorporate into their lives upon their return home. The educational sessions are designed to support healthy changes in lifestyle, positive behavioral choices and long-term wellness.
The topics generally run on a six week rotation and focus on three distinct areas of healing that are part of our commitment to provide a holistic wellness program encompassing the identification and release of emotional pain, the ability to build on individual strengths and the development of healthy coping strategies for recovery and long term health. The two one-hour afternoon sessions offered in the afternoon do not simply follow the interactive book exclusive to our center. Facilitators link and engage the material noted in the booklet in a fashion suitable for the guests participating in each session.
The treatment program at Chopra Addiction and Wellness Center is based on the principles developed by the Chopra Center’s Co-founders David Simon, M.D. and Deepak Chopra, M.D. in their popular book Freedom from Addiction. Drs David Simon and Deepak Chopra worked with Nirmala Raniga, founder of Chopra Addiction and Wellness Center, to translate these principles into a cohesive, articulate and powerful working curriculum.
Reinforcing the program, there are specific educational sessions that support the integrated and holistic approach to long term recovery and vibrant health in body, mind and spirit. These include educational sessions on:
a) Addiction – Healing and Transformation, and;
b) Body, Mind and Spirit – Awakening and Expansion. Our experienced facilitators draw on material from their extensive knowledge and experience to provide sessions that reflect the latest thinking in recovery and healing.
The challenge of relapse prevention is another area covered in the interactive educational sessions. Establishing healthy boundaries and resilience, building a healthy social network, stress management, communication skills, stages of change, nutrition and continuing care are addressed.
Sessions on the timeless wisdom practices from the East – Ayurveda and Primordial Sound Meditation, help residents learn about their unique mind-body constitutions and the effects of stress and non-nurturing behaviors on their mind and body. Guests develop practical tools to bring the body, mind and spirit into balance. The teaching of Ayurveda and Primordial Sound Meditation have long been cornerstone practices at the Chopra Center for Wellbeing. Guests enjoy nutritional educational sessions, therapeutic massage, and a regular practice of meditation and yoga. Residents develop a daily routine of nurturing practices through first-hand experience, understanding and knowledge of these tools and how to apply them on an ongoing basis for continued health and wellbeing.
